10 Best Hostels in Canggu Bali from $5/Night

The best hostels in Canggu cost around $5 per night and are close to surfing spots, pools, and a lively social scene. I live in Bali full-time in Uluwatu, but at first, I stayed in different hostels in Canggu because I was still figuring out where I wanted to stay. The hostels in Canggu feel very different from Ubud or Uluwatu, with their own unique vibe.

Canggu is a lively place with many social activities. It is famous for surfing and nightlife. You might wake up early to surf at Echo Beach or Batu Bolong. After surfing, you can relax by a pool in the afternoon. Most nights, there are events like hostel gatherings, pub crawls, or free dinners that help everyone meet. However, many hostels focus on parties, so if you want peace and quiet, you should choose carefully. I have marked which hostels are mainly for partying and which ones are better for resting.

Which Area of Canggu Should You Stay In?

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

Canggu has three main areas where you can stay. Each area can change your whole trip. Batu Bolong is the center with many cafes and Old Man’s bar, and it is the easiest part to walk around. Berawa is closer to Seminyak and has beach clubs like Finns.

To the north, there are Pererenan and Echo Beach. These places are quieter and good for surfing and yoga. Getting around is easy because Grab and Gojek rides are available everywhere. The cost is also low, usually between 20,000 and 40,000 IDR, or about $1.50 to $2.50. Because of this, you can always find a way to go where you want to go.

  • Batu Bolong is a good choice for your first trip. It is very walkable and close to popular surf spots, cafes, and Old Man’s. Many hostels are located in this area. You should stay here when you visit for the first time.
  • Pererenan and Echo Beach in the north are quieter and better for surfing. You might want to use a scooter to get around. However, riding a scooter means dealing with fewer people but also missing out on some convenience and the best waves.
  • Berawa is close to Seminyak and popular beach clubs like Finns and Atlas. If you prefer nice, famous beach clubs instead of backpacker bars, Berawa is a good choice. However, keep in mind that the area is more spread out.
BGB TIP: You don’t need to overthink the area. Grab and Gojek are cheap and everywhere, and most hostels rent scooters from reception for around 70,000 IDR ($4–$5) a day.

The Farm Hostel — Best Hostel in Canggu for Solo Travelers

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $14 USD   |   🌟 9.0/10   |   🚶 Batu Bolong, ~7-min drive to the beach   |   📸 @thefarmhostel

The Farm Hostel is the place I usually recommend for Solo Travelers visiting Canggu who prefer socializing. It has been in Canggu since 2015 and has grown over time. However, it still feels more like a social hostel than a hotel. You can enjoy two pools, an upstairs bar and kitchen, included breakfast, and an events calendar.

The dorms are quite decent. They have air conditioning, privacy curtains, large lockers, two pillows, a spare blanket, and daily bed-making service. The deluxe dorms feature open-air jungle bathrooms. It’s important to know that there are only dorms, with no private rooms, but there are options for mixed and female-only groups.

Keep in mind that the dorms can get busy, especially in the afternoon when the music starts, so it’s more social than quiet. Some reviews mention that the pool bathrooms can get pretty dirty during busy times.

“Great hostel, great location, and a brilliant atmosphere. The reps made the stay 10x better.” [ See more reviews ]

BGB TIP: Book a female-only dorm if you want the same social scene with a calmer room. They sit slightly away from the main bar noise.

Rhythm & Rumble Hostel — Best Hostel in Canggu for Wellness Community

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $16 USD   |   🌟 9.5/10   |   🚶 Echo Beach, 13-min walk to the sand   |   📸 @rhythmandrumble

Rhythm & Rumble is a boutique capsule hostel near Echo Beach built around staying active. There’s a fully equipped Muay Thai and boxing studio, weekend yoga, surf lessons with local instructors, plus a sauna and cold plunge, the kind of setup you normally pay separately for. The industrial loft design and big pool with daybeds make it feel a step above a standard backpacker spot.

Rooms range from private double rooms near the pool to capsule-style dorm beds. Each room has its own light, power outlet, and storage space. It’s a social place but not loud or party-oriented, so you can wake up early for training at 7 am and still get enough sleep.

“The gym facilities were great, and the lessons are brilliant value. Short walk to the beach and beach clubs.” [ See more reviews ]

Tribal Coworking Bali — Best Hostel In Canggu for Digital Nomads

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $14 USD   |   🌟 9.3/10   |   🚶 Pererenan, 500m / ~10-min walk to the beach   |   📸 @tribal_bali

Tribal Coworking Bali, Bali’s first hostel built specifically for work and staying connected, is this place. If you need to actually get work done, this is the best option. The ground floor is a large workspace with booths, standing desks, long tables for group work, and quiet corners for phone calls.

Most people here are entrepreneurs, content creators, and remote workers. If you want to network with remote workers, this is the best place to do so. They work hard, but they also like to talk and relax. Unlike other hostels that cater mostly to young travelers, Tribal maintains a quiet, professional atmosphere.

Located in peaceful Pererenan, just about 500 meters from the beach, they offer all-day brunch, local coffee, and a bar with happy-hour cocktails. Outside, there is a coworking area that can get warm around midday. WiFi works well in common areas but might be slower in some rooms.

“The crowd is mature, working entrepreneurs and digital nomads. The environment motivates you to work and build something of your own.” [ See more reviews ]

BGB TIP: Grab a desk early. Regulars stake out the best work spots by 8am, and the shaded seats near the pool go first once the sun is up.

Canggu Central Hostel & Rooftop Bar

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $11 USD   |   🌟 8.9/10   |   🚶 Batu Bolong, 0.75 km to the center   |   📸 @canggucentralhostel

Canggu Central Hostel features a rooftop bar that offers happy hours every day. Most nights, a free family-style dinner is available. Each week, you can enjoy pub crawls, beer pong, quiz nights, and DJ sessions. If you are visiting alone and want to find friends on your first night, this is a good place to go.

The dorms are well designed for a party hostel. Each bed has a privacy curtain, a shelf, an outlet, a reading light, and a locker. Every dorm also has an en-suite bathroom. Quiet hours start at 10:30 pm, but it is still quite noisy then.

“Super comfy beds, clean bathrooms, and the rooftop bar gives a free dinner each night. So easy to meet people.” [ See more reviews ]

Lushy Hostel Canggu — Best for Nonstop Hostel Events in Canggu

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $8 USD   |   🌟 9.2/10   |   🚶 Pererenan, 10-min walk to Echo Beach   |   📸 @lushy_hostels

On Saturdays, they have a boat party, and on Sundays, there is a BBQ. It has many features, including a pool, a game room with ping pong and foosball, a rooftop bar, and an on-site cafe. Overall, the atmosphere is lively and full of activities.

This place is located in Pererenan. It is about a 10-minute walk to Echo Beach and a 7-minute scooter ride to central Canggu. It is a little away from Batu Bolong, which some travelers might prefer.

“By far the best hostel I’ve stayed in over three months traveling. Spacious beds, very social, clean pool.” [ See more reviews ]

Lay Day Hostel Canggu — Best Party Hostel in Canggu

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $12 USD   |   🌟 9.0/10   |   🚶 Between Batu Bolong & Pererenan   |   📸 @laydaycanggu

Lay Day Hostel is like a beach club, but without the beach. It has four pools and modern furniture, creating a lively party atmosphere. The staff plans trips and surf sessions every day, so there’s always something fun to do. Even if you don’t surf, you’re very welcome.

Dorms can hold up to six people and offer both mixed and female-only options. There’s also a private room for two with an en-suite bathroom if you want more privacy. A self-service kitchen is available, which is uncommon in Canggu and helps save money. Since it’s a party hostel, you should expect pools and social events, not early nights.

“Four pools, clean modern rooms, real party vibe. The staff organizes everything, and you make friends fast.” [ See more reviews ]

What The Duck Backpackers

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $10 USD   |   🌟 8.8/10   |   🚶 Batu Bolong, walk to Black Sands beach   |   📸 @whattheduckbackpackers

What The Duck has the largest garden of any hostel on this list. It includes an outdoor gym and a pool surrounded by jungle plants. The hostel can be quiet if you want to relax and read on a beanbag. At the same time, it can be lively with daily events. For example, there are free BBQs on Thursdays and Sundays, which include vegetarian options. The hostel also offers ladies’ nights, beer pong, and pool days for fun.

The dorms are available in three types: triple, female-only, and mixed. Each room has air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom, lockers, individual lamps, shelves, and worldwide plugs. Every bed also has a blackout curtain for privacy.

The dorms even provide shampoo and shower soap, which might seem small but can be helpful if you’ve stayed somewhere that doesn’t. They are located off the main Batu Bolong street, making it quieter than Canggu Central. Still, they are close enough to walk to the bars.

“Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at staff were amazing, perfect place to socialise, nice pool and games.” [ See more reviews ]

Sepeda Hostel

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $7 USD   |   🌟 9.4/10   |   🚶 Kayu Tulang, ~0.62 km to the center   |   📸 @sepedahostelcanggu

Sepeda Hostel gives you a lot for your money. Dorm beds start at about $7 and include free breakfast. From Monday to Friday, you can join free yoga classes and enjoy the view of the rice fields. There is also a large pool with bean bags where you can relax.

You can visit the rooftop cafe and bar for great views. Every day, there are fun events to join, like a free family dinner on Thursdays and happy hour every evening. The hostel is friendly and relaxed, which is hard to find in Canggu.

The dorms are clean and have new mattresses, lights, plugs, and shelves for each bed. The staff and international interns help solo travelers feel welcome and join groups easily. However, the dorms are located among the rice fields, so it takes about 40 minutes to walk to the beach.

Most people prefer to rent a scooter or get a ride, both of which are common in Canggu. Also, the place is adults-only, and there is no shared kitchen. Instead, guests eat at the on-site cafe.

“Best hostel I’ve stayed in across Bali. Free breakfast, free yoga, easy to make friends as a solo traveler.” [ See more reviews ]

Kos One Hostel

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $14 USD   |   🌟 9.0/10   |   🚶 Batu Bolong, short walk to Echo Beach   |   📸 @kosonecanggu

Kos One Hostel has a cool Mediterranean style with white walls, an outdoor pool, rice fields, and ocean views. Because of this, many people list it as one of the most attractive hostels. The hostel is a little away from noisy crowds, but it is still close enough to the fun areas for a short ride.

Dorms have small rooms with four beds. These rooms can be either mixed-gender or female-only, which helps keep the environment peaceful and friendly. Private rooms are also available if you prefer more privacy. You can also join events like BBQ nights and yoga sessions. The staff are helpful and know the area well, making it easy for you to feel comfortable.

The place is social but not a party hostel. It is good for people who want a quiet environment and tasteful design, rather than loud parties. If you need a space to work, Tribal, which was mentioned above, is a better choice for digital nomads. Kos One focuses more on style and a slower pace. However, this stylish look usually costs more than cheaper party hostels.

“One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at big beds, clean rooms, everything felt safe and the gatherings were fun.” [ See more reviews ]

Serenity Eco Guesthouse & Yoga — Best Hostel For Yoga Lovers

Best Hostels in Canggu Bali

💲 from $9 USD   |   🌟 8.5/10   |   🚶 ~150m / 2-min walk to Canggu Beach   |   📸 @serenitybali

Serenity Eco Guesthouse is not like party hostels. It is a family-owned place that also offers yoga retreats. The guesthouse is located in a permaculture-based garden, about 150 meters from Canggu Beach. It is a place where you cannot smoke or drink alcohol.

Every day, you can join up to 10 yoga classes. There is also a meditation room for relaxation. Additionally, you can get a massage on-site. You can enjoy a swim in the 14-meter pool. Plus, there is a vegan Alkaline restaurant downstairs where you can eat.

If you did your yoga teacher training in Bali, I recommend this spot in Canggu. The place has different kinds of rooms, from dorms to simple private rooms with bathrooms. When you join the retreat, you get a vegan breakfast buffet each day.

The yoga classes cost extra, but they include different styles like Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga, and aerial yoga. The place feels friendly and relaxed, so it’s a good spot to take a break and feel refreshed.

“Beautiful pool, unbeatable yoga classes, best breakfast buffet every day, and a great place to make friends as a solo traveler.”[ See more reviews ]

Which Area of Canggu Should You Stay In?

Batu Bolong is the safe default. It’s the most walkable, closest to the famous surf breaks, cafes and Old Man’s, and where most of these hostels sit. Stay here for your first trip.

Pererenan and Echo Beach (north) are calmer and more surf-focused. You’ll likely want a scooter, but you trade a little convenience for fewer crowds and better waves.

Berawa leans toward Seminyak and the beach-club scene (Finns, Atlas). It’s good if you want polished beach clubs over backpacker bars, but it’s more spread out.

BGB TIP: You don’t need to overthink the area. Grab and Gojek are cheap and everywhere, and most hostels rent scooters from reception for around 70,000 IDR ($4–$5) a day.

Canggu Hostels FAQ

How much do hostels in Canggu cost?

In Canggu, dorm beds cost about $5 to $8 per night at budget hostels like Sepeda and Lushy. These are good options for travelers looking for affordable places to stay. If you prefer more comfort, private rooms usually start around $30 to $50.

At nicer places such as The Farm, Kos One, or Rhythm & Rumble, prices range from $14 to $16 for a bed in a shared room. Keep in mind that during busy seasons like July, August, and around the New Year, prices tend to increase. It’s a good idea to book your stay early to get the best prices.

Which Canggu hostel is best for solo travelers?

The Farm is a good place to meet people if you’re traveling alone. It has a high social score in Canggu and offers daily events like pub crawls, free dinners, and beer pong, all designed to help you connect. Sepeda and Canggu Central are also good choices for solo travelers for similar reasons. If you work remotely as a digital nomad, Tribal Coworking Bali makes it easy to meet others who are also working online.

Which Canggu hostel is best for digital nomads?

Tribal Coworking Bali is a special place because it is Bali’s first coworking hostel built specifically for working people. It has a large open space with booths, standing desks, and a mature group of entrepreneurs who work there.

However, the coworking area is open to the air and can get hot around midday. WiFi is best in the common areas. Kos One and Sepeda are also good options for digital nomads who prefer a quiet place rather than a dedicated office.

Which Canggu hostel has the best private rooms?

Rhythm & Rumble has the best private rooms on this list. They offer private poolside doubles that come with their own bathrooms. These rooms also give access to the gym, sauna, and yoga.

Tribal Coworking Bali also has private rooms, which are well-designed and cost around $50. These rooms are good for digital nomads who want to work in air-conditioned spaces. However, The Farm and Lushy are mainly for dorms, so you should not book those if you want a private room.

Are Canggu hostels all party hostels?

Some hostels like Canggu Central, Lushy, and Lay Day are lively and host parties every night, so they can be noisy. If you want to sleep peacefully, it’s better to stay at Serenity Eco Guesthouse, which doesn’t serve alcohol.

Other good options include Tribal Coworking Bali, Rhythm & Rumble, Kos One, and Sepeda. These places are social but quieter and do not have late-night partying.

Do I need a scooter to stay in Canggu?

It’s not exactly necessary, but it can be helpful. Hostels in the center of Batu Bolong are close enough to the beach and cafes that you can walk there easily. If you stay in places like Pererenan, Berawa, or rice-field areas such as Sepeda, using a scooter for about $4 to $5 a day, or regular rides with Grab or Gojek, can make getting around much simpler.

What’s the best time to visit Canggu?

The months from April to October are usually dry, making this the best time for good weather, surfing, and sunshine. July and August tend to be more crowded and expensive. However, the months of April–May and September–October often have nice weather, fewer people, and lower hostel prices.
