The 2026 entrance fee for international visitors is IDR 25,000 per adult, or about $1.50. Unlike most beaches in this part of Bali, you can drive almost directly to the sand. There are no long cliff stairs or narrow rock passageways like at Padang Padang Beach.
I’ve lived in Uluwatu since 2022, around 9 miles from Pandawa. It’s the beach I’d recommend if you want to actually swim. An offshore reef helps calm the water, lifeguards watch the designated swimming area, and you’ll find kayaks, toilets, and local warungs within a short walk of the parking area.

Things to Do at Pandawa Beach
Pandawa isn’t just a beach where you lie on the sand for a few hours. You can swim, rent a kayak, see the famous cliff statues, book a paragliding flight, or walk east to find a quieter stretch. If you want to try several activities, set aside at least half a day.
Swimming at Pandawa Beach Bali
Pandawa Beach is one of the better places to swim in South Bali. An offshore reef breaks up some of the swell before it reaches the sand, so the water is often calmer than at the surf beaches around Uluwatu.
The main swimming area is on the western side, marked by red-and-yellow flags. Stay between them and follow the lifeguards’ instructions. They may close the water to swimmers and kayaks if the waves become too strong.
I recommend packing water shoes. The seabed includes sand, reef, shells, and pieces of broken coral, especially when the tide begins to drop.
Pandawa is also easier for families than most beaches on the Bukit Peninsula. You can park close to the sand, lifeguards patrol the swimming area, and toilets, food, and drinks are only a short walk away.
See the Pandawa Statues on the Way Down
Before the main road opened in 2012, you could only reach the beach by boat or along narrow footpaths. This difficult access earned Pandawa its old nickname, Secret Beach.
The six statues along the cliff road gave the beach its current name. They represent Dewi Kunti and her five sons, Yudhistira, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sadewa, from the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
Each statue stands around 16 feet tall inside a niche carved into the limestone cliff. Several are wrapped in traditional Balinese poleng cloth. There are places to pull over near the statues, and you only need around 10 to 15 minutes for photos. The statues are sacred, so don’t climb, sit, or place your belongings on them.
Rent a Kayak
You’ll see colorful kayaks and canoes lined up along the main section of Pandawa Beach. Rentals start at around IDR 50,000 ($3.13) per hour, and life jackets are normally included.
A standard canoe can hold two adults and one child. Go in the morning when the beach is cooler, and the water is usually easier to paddle.
Before setting off, confirm the total price, rental time, and where you need to return the kayak. Vendors may use the terms “kayak” and “canoe” to refer to the same type of small boat.
Go Tandem Paragliding Pandawa Beach
The paragliders you’ll see floating above Pandawa launch from Timbis Hill or nearby Gunung Payung. No experience is required because you’ll fly with a tandem pilot after a short safety briefing.
A 15-minute tandem flight costs around IDR 970,000 to 1,000,000 ($61 to $63) per person. Equipment, insurance, photos, and video are usually included, but check the package details before booking.
Flights depend on wind and weather conditions. Choose a booking that allows free cancellation or a refund if the operator cancels your flight.

Try Snorkeling
You can snorkel on the calmer eastern side when the sea is clear, but I wouldn’t visit Pandawa mainly for snorkeling. Visibility changes with the tide, wind, and recent rainfall.
Guided sessions start at approximately IDR 200,000 ($12.50) per person for one hour, often with a minimum booking of two people. Check the water conditions before paying because the experience won’t be worth it when visibility is poor.
Get a Beach Massage
If you’d rather stay on the sand, local massage providers offer treatments starting at around IDR 100,000 ($6.25). Confirm the treatment length and price before you begin.
Find the Quieter Side of Pandawa
Most people stay near the western end because that’s where you’ll find the main swimming area, kayak rentals, sunbeds, and warungs.
For more space, walk or drive east toward Oka Warung. It’s still part of Pandawa Beach, but it usually feels calmer once you move away from the tour-bus parking area.
Spend the Day at Roosterfish Beach Club
Roosterfish Beach Club is the only full beach club on Pandawa Beach. It’s operated by Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa, part of Marriott, and has a large beachfront pool surrounded by bamboo cabanas and sun loungers.
The menu covers wood-fired pizzas, grilled seafood, salads, local dishes, cocktails, and desserts. A live DJ plays around sunset each day, but the atmosphere is more family-friendly than party-focused.
There’s no separate entrance fee for Roosterfish, although you’ll still need to pay the Pandawa Beach entrance fee at the main gate. You can sit at the restaurant without a listed minimum spend, but the poolside furniture has the following minimums:

Pandawa Beach vs. Melasti Beach: Which One Should You Visit?
Pandawa and Melasti are around 20 minutes apart, but the experience is completely different. Both have paved roads leading to the sand, white limestone cliffs, local warungs, and easy parking. The main difference is the atmosphere: Pandawa feels more like a traditional beach day, while Melasti has a livelier beach-club scene.

Pick Pandawa Beach if you want swimming, kayaking, affordable warung food, and a longer beach where you can find a quieter spot. The western side can get busy with tour groups, but the beach feels much calmer when you continue east toward Oka Warung.
Choose Melasti Beach if you want a more social afternoon with beach clubs, pools, sunset drinks, and louder music. It’s the better choice if you want to dress up, book a daybed, and stay until sunset.
My verdict: If you want music, cocktails, and a busier social atmosphere, choose Melasti. If you want a longer, quieter stretch of sand with fewer establishments, Pandawa is the better beach. If you have time for both, swim at Pandawa in the morning and head to Melasti for sunset.
